Endless Pools open with a splash

The red ribbon has been cut, the covers rolled back and the showers christened at the opening celebrations of the Endless Pools facilities at the Rec Centre.

Five times gold surf life saving champ Nikki Cox and University of Waikato Hillary Scholar; and U Leisure’s longest serving board member Ed Vos where the first to take the official plunge in the Rec Centre’s new Endless Pools.

Ally Boggs, the agent for Endless Pools in New Zealand, demonstrated how easy it is for a coach to train swimmers from the poolside. Swimmers can implement suggested changes from their coach instantly and monitor their stroke in the pool floor mirrors.

With the twist of a button the current can be increased, catering to all swimming abilities.

The freestanding heated pools are also great for rehabilitation, aqua jogging and resistance training with one of the pools having a 1.8m deep centre.

The installation of two Endless Pools was part of the two-year, $1million upgrade and investment strategy for the Rec Centre, based at The University of Waikato.

“We are the regions number one community recreation facility,” says Mark Ingle, General Manager of U Leisure, “and this is reflected in the variety and quality of facilities and services that we provide.”

“I invite the whole community down to our open day on Sunday 25th May between 10am and 4pm to experience the new pools and to tour our facilities.”

Now with the installation of two Endless Pools Ingle has good grounds for his claim that the Rec Centre is the top facility in the Waikato.

The Rec Centre, a major community facility operated by U Leisure, a joint venture company owned by the University of Waikato and the Waikato Students Union, will be the first public fitness centre in New Zealand to have Endless Pools available.

Moira Neho, Chairperson of U Leisure board and President of Waikato Students, cutting the ribbon.

Nikki Cox - 5 times gold medals at NZ Surf Life Saving Champs and member of NZ Team off to the World Championships, recipient of the Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship programme and Prime Ministers scholarship – taking the plunge.

Ed Vos, long serving member on the U Leisure board and Professor of Finance at the University of Waikato’s Management School, will be using the pools to assist with recovering from a leg injury.

Swimming into the adjustable current in the 1.8m deep pool Nikki receives coaching tips from Ally Boggs, the NZ agent for Endless Pools.
